Find Rated Boiler Engineers Near You

Compare Gas Safe boiler engineers for repairs, servicing and new boiler installation.

What does a boiler engineer do?

A boiler engineer installs, services and repairs gas, oil and LPG boilers and central heating systems. By law, anyone working on gas appliances in the UK must be on the Gas Safe Register — this is not optional.

Common boiler services

  • Boiler breakdown repairs
  • Annual boiler servicing
  • New boiler installation and swaps
  • Central heating fault finding
  • Radiator, valve and thermostat work
  • Power flushing and system cleaning
  • Landlord Gas Safety Certificates (CP12)
  • Gas fire and hob servicing
  • Smart thermostat fitting
  • No-heat and no-hot-water call-outs

When to hire a boiler engineer

Call a boiler engineer for no heating or hot water, a leaking or noisy boiler, a boiler that keeps losing pressure, or your annual service. Landlords must arrange a gas safety check every 12 months.

How to choose a boiler engineer

For anything involving gas, the checks are non-negotiable. Before you book:

  • Confirm the engineer is on the Gas Safe Register — you can ask to see the ID card
  • For oil boilers, look for OFTEC registration instead
  • Public liability insurance
  • A written quote and, for new boilers, the warranty terms
  • That any Gas Safety Certificate is provided in writing
  • Reviews or references for similar boilers and systems

What affects the cost of boiler work?

Boiler and heating costs vary with the appliance and system. The main factors are:

  • Whether it is a repair, service or full replacement
  • The make, model and type of boiler (combi, system or regular)
  • Whether the boiler is being moved to a new location
  • The age and condition of the existing system
  • Parts availability for older models
  • Whether a power flush or system upgrade is recommended

For typical UK and London prices, see our new boiler cost guide.

Never accept gas work from anyone who cannot show a valid Gas Safe ID card.

Frequently asked questions

Emergency plumber or boiler engineer — who do I need?

For heating and boiler faults use a Gas Safe registered boiler engineer. For water leaks and drainage, a plumber is usually right.

Why does my boiler keep losing pressure?

Common causes include leaks, a faulty pressure relief valve or expansion vessel — a boiler engineer can diagnose it.
