Business Listing Policy

This Business Listing Policy sets out the rules for tradespeople and businesses (“you”) who create or hold a listing on ratedlocaltrades.co.uk. It forms part of, and should be read together with, our Terms of Use and Privacy Policy. By submitting or maintaining a listing, you agree to this policy.

1. Who can list

Listings are intended for genuine, independent tradespeople and businesses operating in the United Kingdom. You confirm that you are authorised to represent the business you are listing and that the business is genuine and lawfully trading.

2. Accurate and honest information

You are responsible for the information in your listing. You must ensure that it is accurate, honest and not misleading, and you must keep it up to date. In particular, you must not:

• make false or misleading claims about your services, experience or coverage;
• display accreditations, memberships, certifications or qualifications that you do not genuinely hold;
• use another business’s name, branding or content without permission; or
• include unlawful, offensive or infringing content.

3. Qualifications, insurance and legal compliance

You are responsible for holding the qualifications, registrations, licences and insurance required by law for the work you carry out. For example, anyone carrying out gas work must be Gas Safe registered, and certain electrical work must be carried out or certified by a suitably registered electrician. You must comply with all laws applicable to your business, including consumer protection law, and you must honour customers’ statutory rights.

4. Verification

Unless we clearly state otherwise for a particular listing, we do not independently verify the information you provide, and a listing does not mean that we have checked or endorsed your business. We may, at our discretion, ask you to provide evidence to support claims in your listing (such as insurance or registration details), and we may remove or amend listings where information cannot be substantiated or appears misleading.

5. Responding to customers

If you receive an enquiry through the Website, you are responsible for responding professionally and dealing with the customer fairly and lawfully. Any contract for work is between you and the customer; we are not a party to it.

6. Free and paid listings

We currently offer listings free of charge. We may in future introduce paid or enhanced listing options; any paid features, their price and their terms will be made clear before you commit to them. We will not misrepresent the benefits of any listing option.

7. Reviews on your profile

Customers may leave reviews about your business, which are governed by our Review Policy. You must not post, solicit or incentivise fake reviews, and you must not attempt to suppress genuine ones. If you believe a review breaches our Review Policy, you can report it to us.

8. Content licence

By submitting listing content (including text, logos and images), you grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, display and promote that content in connection with the Service, and you confirm that you own or are licensed to use it.

9. Data protection

We process the business and personal contact data in your listing in accordance with our Privacy Policy. Where you receive customers’ personal data through the Website, you act as an independent data controller and must comply with data protection law in your own right.

10. Suspension and removal

We may decline, suspend, amend or remove any listing at our discretion, including where you breach this policy or our Terms of Use, where we receive justified complaints, or where we are required to do so by law.

11. Liability

You use the Service as a business. Nothing in this policy makes us responsible for your work, your conduct or your dealings with customers, and our liability to you is limited as set out in our Terms of Use.
